World Water Day and Earth Hour

Next week marks World Water Day (22 March) and Earth Hour (27 March) and is the perfect time for us to be more aware of our impact on the environment.

1. Tour to NEWater Visitor Centre to find out how Singapore leverages on technology advances to reclaim water.

NEWater is treated used water that has undergone stringent purification and treatment process using advanced dual-membrane (microfiltration and reverse osmosis) and ultraviolet technologies. It could be mixed and blended with reservoir water and then undergo conventional water treatment to produce drinking water (a procedure known as Planned Indirect Potable Use or Planned IPU).

If you are feeling lazy and do not wish to step out of your house, here’s a very information article which you can read, click here

2. Show your support and turn off your lights for one hour, Earth Hour, 8.30pm.

Perhaps some of you folks can get together and host an Earth Hour party or candlelit affair? Hahaha. Some of the gals and I will be having fun at Cameron Highlands and I will do my part by turning off all my electric applications at home/work, hahaha... Check out the offical website for more information, click here

Restaurant Week SG - 22 to 28 Mar

For the first time, Restaurant Week, a unique and innovative gourmet event, will be held from 22 March to 28 March 2010 in Singapore, which is Asia’s first city to host this ground-breaking concept. Restaurant Week is held in conjunction with Official Sponsors: American Express, Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, Cape Mentelle, Terrazas and Time Out.

Limited seats for a special three-course meal at established / top local restaurants - such as Garibaldi, Bedrock Bar & Grill, The Cliff, Song of India, Fifty Three and One On The Bund - will be offered at an irresistible fixed price of S$35++ for a three-course dinner and S$25++ for a three-course lunch.

What is the Restaurant Week?

Dining in a high quality restaurant is generally an expensive matter, except during Restaurant Week. From Monday the 22nd till Sunday the 28th of March, high quality restaurants will serve a special three course dinner for a fixed price of S$35++* and a three course lunch for S$25++*. Bookings for the DiningCity Restaurant Week are only possible via www.restaurantweek.sg. Bookings are handled real-time.

* Restaurants awarded with a DiningCity Star can ask an additional fee of S$15 for lunch and S$20 for dinner.

The list of restaurants can be found here.

I am definitely keen to dine somewhere!! We should have to make reservation really really quickly as I see that some restaurants are fully booked... Argghh... Let me know if you are interested =)

Mdm, may I have the honour of dancing with you?

Within World Dance Council international competitions are two categories of dances, Ballroom (also called Standard or Modern) and Latin.

In the Ballroom dances, partners remain in closed position
throughout the dance, and movements tend to be elegant and sweeping. The ballroom dances are progressive, moving anti-clockwise round the floor.

Ballroom dances: Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot and Quickstep.

The Latin dances are more overtly sensual, close, semi-open and open figures are danced.
Hip action is common; and athletic and balletic maneuvers are common.

Latin dances: Cha-cha-cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive.

I would like to extract out the explanations of the dances from wikipedia but they are too technical. The number of turns, beats and the types of steps, figures, etc. I think it can be more appreciated when you watch it or experience it yourself.

Not fantastic dancing but it is the feel of it. Al Pacino's character is blind and leads a young lady who has never tried tango before. I liked how the guy leads well such that the lady can follow easily. No pressure on the guys... I can go on auto mode but it kills the point of the dance. hahhaa...

From my lil experience in my dance classes, it'll be better to bring your fixed partner along. It's better because you learn and adjust together. I've never liked freestyling or whatever it is called when there is no choreography because I haven't mastered following the guy's lead.

But whatever it is, it'll be great to be able to do a waltz on the wedding day. Erm, with your spouse and not a stand-in (Insider's joke for the buffalo wings people *winks*).
