Japanese Summer Festival 2007 @ Changi Japanese School

夏祭り

Hiyaz..

There will be a Japanese Summer Festival (Natsu Matsuri) carnival held on 25/8, this saturday at the Japanese School in Changi. (Post Editted)

Description

It is basically a carnival held every year by the Japanese people and students in conjunction with the Japanese Summer Festival celebrated in Japan. If you are familiar with animes or jdramas, you should have some idea of what it is about. Eg, "One Litre of Tears". I have been to one in 2004. Interesting to be in a place where ppl are dressed up in Yukatas. Many Jap ppl and jap culture followers there..I spent mostly on food bah. But you can queue up for the games if you want to. There is a mass dance item at the end of the Festival too.

The webpage to locate the details is http://www.jas.org.sg/JAS/ViewHeadings.aspx. Then Click Summer Fest 2007, or the Free shuttle bus link.

Pics for the event in previous years can be found at link 1 link 2 link 3.

Attire

Casual dressing. But if you have a Yukata, a casual form of a Kimono, you can wear that there. Else it is still possible to rent one there. Though the long queues make it unlikely that you will spend time queuing.

Tickets
I have not had experience queuing for tickets before, so I am not familiar with the procedure. I checked a forum and they stated that the sales of the tickets are at the entrance on the day itself. from 5.30pm, limited to 2 per person. I wonder if they really enforce this 2 per person rule. Anw, I will be there eariler to queue for the tix and check the crowd. Will get someone thr to help me get the tix if need be.

The plan
If there are many people going, you can meet at bedok interchange. Berth 6. From 5pm to 7.15pm. Return trip is from 7.30pm to 11.15pm Frequency is every 15 mins. There is another pickup point at Expo itself.

I will be going direct and earlier to queue for tix since I got a direct bus from Home. So you can meet me direct as well.

Can bring a small mat to sit down on when you are tired, unless you want to sit on their running tracks..:P

Participants
Everyone is welcomed. This event happens just once a year. So if you are interested in immersing in a new experience in Spore, do join us. At present Aihua, Anson, Sel, Peiyi and myself will be going attended.

Contingency Plan
In the event of not being admitted entry, we could adjourn to the following possible venues.
Changi Beach - quite a scenic location if you have never been before. Wide Beaches. Changi Village for makan nearby
Bedok Reservoir - There is this hill top where you can see quite a distance. But think it will be dark by the time you reach there. Can go siglap to eat after that
Nintendo Wii - All else fails, we can play Wii at my place. Limited games though...:P..prob mani of u dun noe but the Wii console motion detection allow games like tennis to be played by swinging the controller like a racket or boxing by punching out with the controller in hand, rather than pressing a few buttons.

Akan Datang (Coming Soon)
Seiransai 2007. This is another School Carnival held on the Sept 16, Sunday 9.30am to 4.30pm at Waseda Shibuya Senior High School, along 57 West Coast Road. Link

I have nv been thr b4. But I think it is like a funfair org by the sch. With Food and Games. entrance is free, but you nid to pay for the games and food. Like all funfairs maybe. (Dun think got waterboys bah...haha...)

Here are some pics..cannot tell much though.

Ever wonder?

Extracted from an email:

1. Why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed?

2. Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid
is made with real lemons?

3. Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?

4. Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

5. Why is "abbreviated" such a long word?

6. Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?

7. Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

8. Why don't you ever see the headline "Psychic Wins Lottery"?

9. Why is it that doctors call what they do "practice"?

10. Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin?

11. Why is it that to stop Windows 98, you have to click on "Start"?

12. Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?

13. When dog food is new and improved tasting, who tests it?

14. Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?

15. Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?

16. You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why
don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?

17. If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?
If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

In case you needed further proof that the
human race is doomed through stupidity,
here are some actual label instructions
on consumer goods.

On a Sears hairdryer: Do not use while
sleeping. ( and that's the only time I have to work on my hair.)

On a bag of Fritos: ..You could be a winner! No purchase necessary.
Details inside. (the shoplifter special?)

On a bar of Dial soap: "Directions: Use like regular soap." (and that
would be how??...)

On some Swanson frozen dinners: "Serving suggestion: Defrost." (but,
it's "just" a suggestion.)

On Tesco's Tiramisu dessert (printed on
bottom): "Do not turn upside down." (well...duh, a bit late, huh!)

On Marks & Spencer Bread Pudding: "Product will be hot after heating."
(...and you thought????...)

On packaging for a Rowenta iron: "Do not iron clothes on body." (but
wouldn't this save me more time?)

On Boot's Children Cough Medicine:"Do not drive a car or operate
machinery after taking this medication." (We could do a lot to reduce
the rate of construction accidents if we could just get those
5-year-olds with head-colds off those forklifts.)

On Nytol Sleep Aid: "Warning: May cause drowsiness." (and... I'm taking
this because???....)

On most brands of Christmas lights: "For indoor or outdoor use only."
(as opposed to...what?)

On a Japanese food processor: "Not to be used for the other use." (now,
somebody out there, help me on this. I'm a bit curious.)

On Sunsbury's peanuts: "Warning: contains nuts." (talk about a news
flash)

On an American Airlines packet of nuts:
"Instructions: Open packet, eat nuts." (Step 3: maybe, uh...fly Delta?)
On a child's superman costume: "Wearing of this garment does not enable
you to fly." (I don't blame the company. I blame the parents for this
one.)

On a Swedish chainsaw:"Do not attempt to stop chain with your hands or
genitals." (..was there a lot of this happening somewhere?)

Enjoy =) ~ Fiona

The Man Code

2. If you’ve known a guy for more than 24 hours, his sister is off limits forever! Unless you actually marry her.
3. When questioned by a buddy’s wife, girlfriend, mother, father, priest, shrink, dentist, accountant, or dog walker, you need not and should not provide any useful information as to his whereabouts. You are even permitted to deny his very existence.
4. Unless he murdered someone in your immediate family, you must bail a friend out of jail within 24 hours.
5. You may exaggerate any anecdote told in a bar by 50% without recrimination; beyond that, anyone within earshot is allowed to yell out “BULLSHIT!” (Exception: When trying to pick up a girl, the allowable exaggeration is 400%)
6. Under no circumstances may two men share an umbrella.
7. The minimum amount of time you have to wait for another guy is 5 minutes. The maximum is 6 minutes. For a girl, you are required to wait 10 minutes for every point of hotness she scores on the classic 1-10 babe scale.
10. Agreeing to distract the skanky friend of a hot babe that your buddy is trying to hook up with is your legal duty. Should you get carried away with your good deed and end up having sex with the beast, your pal is forbidden to ever speak of it.
11. On a road trip, the strongest bladder determines pit stops, not the weakest.
13. Women who claim they “love to watch sports” must be treated as spies until they demonstrate knowledge of the game and the ability to pick a Buffalo wing clean.
14. If a man’s zipper is down, that’s his problem - You didn’t see nothin’.
15. No man is ever required to buy a birthday present for another man. In fact, even remembering a best friend’s birthday is strictly optional, and slightly gay.
18. Unless you have a lucrative endorsement contract, never appear in public wearing more than one Nike swoosh.
19. When stumbling upon other guys watching a sporting event, you may always ask the score of the game in progress, but you may never ask who is playing.
21. Only in a situation of mortal danger or ass peril are you permitted to kick another member of the male species in the testicles.
23. If your buddy is outnumbered outmanned, or too drunk to defend himself, you must jump into the fight. Exception: If within the past 24 hours his actions have caused you to think “What this guy needs is a good ass whuppin’, then you may sit back and enjoy.
25. When picking players for sports teams it is permissible to skip over your buddy in favour of better athletes - as long as you don’t let him be the last sorry son of a bitch standing on the sideline.
26. If you compliment a guy on his six-pack, you better be referring to his beer.
29. Never hesitate to reach for the last beer or the last slice of pizza, but not both. That’s just mean.
30. Never talk to another man in the bathroom unless you’re on equal footing: either both urinating or both waiting in line. In all other situations, a nod will do just fine.
31. Never allow a telephone conversation with a woman to go on longer than you are able to have sex with her.
33. If your buddy is trying to hook up with a girl, you may sabotage him only in a manner that gives you no chances of getting any either.
34. Before allowing a drunken friend to cheat on his girl, you must attempt one intervention. If he can get up on his feet, look you in the eye, and deliver a “Fuck off!” then you are absolved from all responsibility. Later on it is ok that you have no idea what his girlfriend is talking about.
35. The morning after you and a babe, who was formerly “just a friend”, go at it, the fact that you’re feeling weird and guilty is no reason not to jump on her again before there is a discussion about what a big mistake it was.
36. When using a urinal in a public restroom, a buffer zone of at least one urinal will exist at all times. If the only empty urinal is directly next to an occupied on, then you are still required to wait.
37. When coming to a room which you know is occupied by your friend and possibly another girl, you must knock and wait for an adequate response. If no response occurs, and the door is locked, a 10 minute period is required before knocking again.
38. If you accidentally touch or brush against any part of another man below the waist, it is an understood accident, and NO apologies or any reference to the occurrence is necessary.
39. Any dispute lasting any longer than 3 minutes must be settled by rock, paper, scissors. There is no argument too important for this determining method.
40. Only acceptable time when a man is allowed to cry:After being struck in the testicles with anything moving faster than 7 mph. When your date is using her teeth. The day Anna Kornikova chooses a husband.
41. If a hot girl shall happen to pass by while you are in an arms reach of your buddy, you must, tap him on the shoulder to make him aware of the babe.
46. It is permissible to consume a fruity chick drink only when you’re sunning on a tropical beach, and it’s delivered by a topless supermodel, and it’s free.
47. Under no circumstances may two non-related men share a bed or anything which could be perceived as a mattress.
48. If you jiggle more than twice, you’re playing with it.
49. A man shall never help another man apply sun tan oil.
50. It is the God given duty of every man to assist any other man that may be in need of assistance in obtaining a threesome with two girls.

Dilemma – to appeal or not to appeal

Loveflower : Really upset that I failed cfa level 2 exam this time round… Again!!! My scores are much better than last’s year, and judging from my marks, I should have passed…. really 不服气 lor. I studied much harder, did more exam questions, went for exam with much more confidence, completed the 2 papers with much ease (though there’s some tough questions…) and came out feeling good cos I know I would pass this round time… seriously… and now… back to square one!!! really want to cry lah when I saw the result… wwwwhhhhyyyyyy

Result Slip
The table below illustrates your subject matter strengths and weaknesses. The three columns on the right are marked with asterisks to indicate your performance on each question or topic area.

Am contemplating whether I should request for a retabulation of my scores… would cost me USD100 (SGD155 equivalent)… and the chance of reversing the grade from ‘fail’ to ‘pass’ is really slim…

CFA Institute does not offer an appeals process. Similarly, we do not offer a re-marking service. Exam Score Retabulation is a verification of the final score by which CFA Institute staff manually verifies that all parts of all questions answered in accordance with the instructions were found and graded and that the scores were added correctly. Retabulation will not change the grades on your answers. Unless an error is found in totaling or recording your scores, the pass/fail decision will not be affected.

So what to do now?

On one side, my heart says that slim chance still equals to a bit of chance, go for it… there may be marking/calculation error (though paper is marked by computer) and it would have been a ‘pass’ grade… I could be taking level 3 next year you know. It’s only 100USD and I can end the what-if-I-would-have-passed-the-paper-if-only-I-request-for-an-appeal mentality… hahaha.. in short, really paying money to make myself 心服口服 lah.

On the other side, my head says that there is really no chance, so don’t waste money… it’s not worth it!! cos I searched around in forum and most ppl were saying that they know of no one who has managed to change the grade. So it’s kind of stupid to contribute money to the organization, only make them more profitable… better to use the money to retake the paper…

How how tell me how….
