30th May 2008: My last day in the Bank...
Well, this was my first permanent job, and 不知不觉, i worked there for more than 3 years... oh gosh!! how time flies... though i have often complained to you ppl that i am 'wasting my youth' there, how 'stupid' the system/procedure is, how irritating some of my colleagues are, how blah blah blah, i must admit that i have learnt alot in work and from them... =) they are really a nice bunch of ppl to work together with!! will definitely miss them...
Aniwae, the department head treated the whole department for lunch on Friday... (check out the photos that i uploaded in gmail...) there's a recent re-org of the division which is to take effect on Monday... and basically, my current department is to disappear and come under other departments!! how sad right?? so the lunch is a formal farewell for me cum informal farewell for department head...
Was very surprised that my colleagues got me a watch... pretty nice! and you know what they told me?? they told me that i have to start dressing up like a professional (i was rolling my eyes lah... why do they mean by that right?? you mean i dont dress pro in office mah??) and can start by wearing this watch... the sporty watch that i always wear, i should wear on weekends... hahaha... really appreciate their well-intention =P
Was even more surprised when another team leader from another department bought me a teddy bear coin bank + jelly... i thought he hates me lah!! hahaha... cos we worked in a project and the proposals that i come up with were pretty tough and not welcome by him and his team... i must learn to look at things from a different light liao... work is work; someone nice is someone nice...
okie, going to start new job in new office on wed... mixed feeling... hopefully my new colleagues are nice and friendly... hahaha... so if anyone of you is at dhoby ghout area, sms me for lunch yah...
back to studies now... =( exam in 7 days... i should go in panic mood soon!! hahaha

Hey loveflower, I had meant to tell u but kept forgetting, I was as usual sending mass mails to ur current bank's email, and as I typed out ur name, I realised that ur email acct is already set up in my bank! That was abt 2 weeks plus ago. So efficient is ur boss/HR.
Anyway, I can't wait for u to come over! I can come Plaza n jio u for lunch sometime soon!
hahaha.. i shall see on the efficiency part... yesh, got my staff pass (omg lor, i looked ugly!!), staff account set up + atm/cheque book... these 2 days on courses, so managed to get home around 7pm or so... hahaha..
tml official work day... hopefully the LAN ID/PW and my laptop are ready for use... hahaha..
yesh, do jio me for lunch yah.. but you have to pop down to find me lah... i dont think i can disappear for long lunches... hahaha... =P
and oops, forgot to mention that i will be working in the department called WS Projects - FM Equity Derivatives
hahhaa.. i LOVE the name... quite it sounds chiam!! hahaha...

Belated congrats on scoring this job. It seems u had a lovely farewell. I doubt mine will be as sweet or heartwarming. Hope your first day of work was good. I shall be missing u, lunch khaki. =)
first day at work today... =P well, not exactly a good start; i think it can be better... but oh well, what do you expect right??
set up my laptop + 2x 19" LCD monitor in the morning (yesh, my desk looks like what you watch on tv... the trader kind of workstation... i suspect i will need to look at excel spreadsheets and whatnot soon.. haiz)
managed to login to network, opened my inbox and saw that i have 180 plus unread mails... YESH, 180 plus mails in my inbox!! was super shock lah!! today first day of work lor... so i read abt 10%... am totally clueless as to what's happening...
then i asked my neighbour and she confirmed that most of the mails are routed to us becos we are under the email group... haha.. we are kept in the loop cos we MAY need to follow up on these issues in future... =(
so morning was busy trying to figure out how to change passwords in system, how to update personal details, how to request for various system access, how to etc etc... and it didnt help that the system logged me out after i changed my stupid passwords and i need to find the helpdesk no... !@%$%&*%...
so lunch came and there's no one to lunch with me!! (yesh fiona, i will miss you as my lunch khaki) went down to pack chicken rice back office to eat ALONE... more sighs...
and it doesnt help that my mentor is on half day leave today (hopefully she will be in tml, else i will have to talk to boss liao...) and my boss is not around most of the time...
haizzz, so i am left alone at my desk... totally didnt know what's expected of me and what i will be and shall be doing... =(
so in the end, i spent the afternoon doing the online courses and quiz... super bo liao lah... need to retake a certain quiz for 4 times before i manage to pass it... super piss off.. hahaha
then in the evening, received email that there's a team meeting and everyone is to dial in for conference call... scratch head more lah... also dont know what's everyone is talking abt..
and to my horror!! there's a team bonding tml night, from 7pm - 9pm at a pub in boat quay.. wah lau, i want to escape home to study also cannot lah... i shall just appear for a very while and then disppear mysteriously.. hahaha...
aniwae, forgot to elaborate that the mails that i received are all very technical in nature... I WANT TO FAINT!! hahaha... will need to face a super steep learning curve...
have to lay my hands on the system manuals tml!! else i will super blank face at the course trainer next week...

You relax ok.. When i just started worked in Ireland I was also very lost. Lost about the culture, system and whole bloody Ireland and had no friends....
Things will improve over time. I think you will probably feel less overwhelmed once the stress of your exams are over.
Well as for lunches, I lunch mainly alone here too. :(. With your outgoing personality, I'm sure you will be able to make friends soon. :)

You have quite a big and tidy desk, no doubt it will soon be packed with stuff. And I like ur "Bloomberg" monitors!
Actually it's natural to feel very lost on the first day (though I agree that I too am shocked at the no of emails u received and the complex nature of the emails). But I believe that you'll soon pick up and get used to the pace there, very soon. See you're not even daunted by the majority of angmohs there. If it were me I think I wld have communication breakdown. Jiayou!

today is much much better... yeah!! hahaha... managed to complete 7/8 of the e-learning modules today... (the whole team knew abt it during the drinking session; everyone was shocked lah... hahaha)
was unable to launch the last course cos something wrong with program; email helpdesk liao, hopefully will be able to resolve soon =)
then i met alex lunch... he was around the area for meeting and jio me.. he's my 救星; else i will pack back and lunch in alone in office.. hahaha
evening drink session cum team bonding went quite well... chat with most of my team members... out of the 16pp there, only 4 singaporeans... no surprise since sel mentioned that my department all angmohs...
aniwae, i'm the youngest, with the least work experience (of course.. experience = age mah.. hahaha...) most of the team have worked in various countries before coming to SG...
i suspect they all relocate here becos of the department head lor... cos they had worked with him before and he sort of got them to join the bank..
then even more 夸张... he got this lady to join us becos she asked him whether there's any job in SG that she can do while the both of them were collecting luggages at the airport in UK/France (i forgot the details)... and they didnt know each other before that lor... amazing lah...
okie... gtg study now... just got home like 45min ago.. sian, another 2.5bks to cover... dont need to sleep liao lah...
btw, emi and bk, you receive my mail?? no reply from either of you?? hmm, i wonder if i am allowed to email to external parties or not .. hahaha... let me know =>
aniwae, quick update: will be away for course from tues - fri; will be at odeon tower, city hall area... so if anyone around that area, jio me for lunch yah =P
had sort of figured out what i am suppose to do in work... it's pretty similar to previous work - document/manage user requirement, testing, coordination work, blah blah blah... just that this system is more complicated, dealing with trades from end to end processing (front-middle-back office processing)...
so i wont bore everyone here with the technical details... anyone keen to know more, we discuss over lunch/dinner yah =P

For your exams, hope for the best and always prepare for the worst. Nothing is conclusive till the results are out, so don't worry anymore!
And yup will jio you if I'm near your office again. Tomorrow I can't but maybe Wed?
