Why visit the Merlion when you can pose next to it, and stay in it?
Back in October 2008, this LOL All Nippon Airways TV ad promoting Singapore created quite a buzz online.
The whacky ad shows a Japanese woman trying to persuade her reluctant salaryman husband to take a weekend holiday to Singapore "to see the Merlion".
The next day, the mythical creature magically appears in their apartment and following a stellar demonstration of its spouting prowess, the husband agrees.
Knocking up 46,700 views on YouTube, almost three years on, the ad is still popular -- and we're purely speculating here -- could have inspired the idea of the Merlion Hotel.
